January 26: Mark de Clive-Lowe presents CHURCH LA: Official Relaunch!

We’re in a new venue on a new night, starting this week. We’ll be going to CHURCH every 4th Thursday of the month at the Del Monte Speakeasy, in Venice.

Thursday 26 January 9pm – 1am @ The Del Monte Speakeasy

This is our new monthly Cheers (“where everybooooody knows your na-a-ame”) where you can catch your girl ms. nia andrews on vox .

The LA Times wrote that CHURCH “has earned a reputation as one of the premier jam nights in the city…”. Come and find out for yourself what they’re talking about!

i had a really great time today visiting the station: was my first time! i’ve been a long time listener of kcrw and it was a pleasure meeting the crew and making music. big thanks to everyone at kcrw for having us!

Happy frickin’ New Year! New Years Day is one of my favorite holidays. It just feels so clean at the start of a new year.

I kicked off 2012 with an extra special installment of CHURCH LA: our farewell to Angel’s Piano Bar :’(, which will be no more as of mid-month. I’m really gonna miss that place. If you were there, you know how spectacular an evening it truly was!! AHHHHH!! I’m still screaming inside with joy from how perfect that night was!

Yet before I gush anymore, let me simply break down the month, shall I? And away we go…

“The Why” is a song I wrote about endings, which is the first single from Mark de Clive-Lowe’s upcoming album ‘Renegades’.

And it’s up for free download HERE!

“The Why” is to be released Oct. 4 worldwide with a Maddslinky remix, followed by the album on 14th November.

Ooh I went outside today and grew excited to feel a bit of chill in the air. Autumn is near and that means that a few projects will be coming into bloom!

I sang farewell to summer with a fun reunion with a bearded guy who first put the mic in my hand about 6 years ago .

It was great to reconnect with the old crew that helped kick off this current leg of my music journey. And even MORE exciting to come home and find a surprising artist profile by Clutch Magazine in a new series titled, “She Got Next”. What a big honor to be appreciated in this way, especially without expecting it .

Countdown to a couple things:

October 2: CHURCH 1-year anniversary

CHURCH is a monthly party where we repent every 1st Sunday at Angels Piano Bar, curated by our music priest, Mark de Clive-Lowe. Ok I’m being silly lol, but know that CHURCH is my FAVORITE time of month! I’m a resident there, usually singing during the first set. What I love about this night is that for half the set, the music is created spontaneously so you never know what’s going result, who’s gonna show up, where the music is gonna go…it’s pretty incredible. And so unique to anything that I’ve ever experienced. Live music heads such as myself are thoroughly addicted. I’ve only missed it once ALL year, and was so sick to find out that two of my favorite musicians, Robert Glasper and Chris “Daddy” Dave, showed up to play that night. Drats.

Yay, so this night will be extra special being the one year anniversary. I know who a couple special guests are who’ll be there, yet I’m sworn to secrecy! That said: Come, or you’ll be sorry!

October 4: “The Why” drops (U.S.A.)

Need I say more? RENEGADES features artists, Omar (a UK favorite of mine, love his voice), Sheila E., Tawiah (Mark Ronson), Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, among others, with four songs penned by yours truly.

Spring 2010 found me in the studio working with my ace. By now you know who I’m talking about: the priest @mashibeats, better known as Mark de Clive-Lowe. He’s dropping his album, RENEGADES, on the label, Tru Thoughts, in November and yours truly is makin’ an appearance. or 2. or 3. ok 4, I’m on 4 songs. I’m shimmying right now from excitement lol…

Gilles Peterson made the announcement on his show on BBC UK Radio One last night and played one of our jams, “Hooligan”, also featured on the Label Love compilation that dropped last week:

Sooooo fast forward to Summer 2010, which found me in the studio with LA’s beloved, Blu.

He asked me to guest on a track after hearing me freestyle at one of the Skid Row Jam Sessions curated by Andrew Lojero. I was super honored. Now fast forward one mo’ ‘gin to Blu and I gallivanting around our hometown with a young director from tejas and voila, the result was THIS, which dropped on Tuesday.

Our song, “My Sunshine” was produced by Shafiq Husayn (Sa-Ra Creative Partners) and is the first single off of Blu’s “No York” project. In case you didn’t catch it, here it is again

More thangs a’brewin. I’m bursting at the seams ready to spill the beans, but shhhhhh…for now you’ll just have to stay tuned .
